Holy Cow, it is crazy how fast time fly’s. We are going to go back in time now that the instameet is a pleasant memory. A huge shout out to our sponsors @baby_jeep_racing @interstatebait @hobohammocks @utahlake @bali_wear and everybody who made time to join us. We made some new friends and renewed old acquaintances. The best part is the photographers we get to go shoot with. Our goal is have a great time, laugh a lot, be silly, and hopefully get some amazing shots. (In that order)
It seems we get going on one project when something new and fun catches our eyes. So we have decided to concentrate on just two areas of photography for a while. Ok 1 area Night Shots, but mostly light painting (which we are still in the infant stages of learning) and Steelwool spinning (which we learn something new each time we go out). We have a new orb lights to play with and soon a new LED light saber. We are excited to get inv.olved in this fun hobby.
Here are a couple of recent night outings. Thanks to @whatiseefrom here @allington_adventues for their creative spinning and to @emmalouallington for showing up to be our model and getting Jeff out of the pictures.
Melanie and me have challenged each other to keep improving our Black n White Photography…
Check out more of our work on Instagram… @uncle_egghead_photography or @mamojeep_photography
Our challenge to you is to get out at night, get creative and make some incredible memories and please share your pictures we us. We love to highlight your shots and share them with our followers. Questions feel free to contact Jeff or Melanie at firstname.lastname@example.org or on Instagram… @uncle_egghead_photography or @mamojeep_photography
This week on Two Strangers Photography, we are going to give our learning lesson tips & all the ingredients you need to capture your very own magic with steel wool spinning. After you are finished reading and you are ready to set out on your quest for spectacular steel wool photos, please remember to practice safety first. You are playing with fire. Please take the necessary precautions, you are burning steel after all…fire extinguisher, clear safety glasses, long sleeve clothing, and gloves…and if you think of something else that is wise use it. (We are not responsible if you light something or someone on fire.) *Spin at your own Risk! *BE SAFE SPINNERS!
Ingredients: Here is a list of items that you will need to Create Magic…
Other items required: Camera, Tripod, flashlight, a remote is handy but not necessary, you can use the timer on your camera. Oh, and a friend or stranger to be your spinner (it is a lot easier with another person or several).
Now you have all your gear and are ready for your adventure….almost. Next you need to find a location to shoot. Scouting out during the day, when there is a lot of light by which to see. Find somewhere that nothing is likely to be lit by a flying spark. A Lake with a jetty, or a dock that the spinner can stand on, a bridge over a river, sand dunes, tunnels, empty concrete warehouse…get creative.
Arrive at your location before the sunsets to give you time to set up, decide what perspective, angle, and direction you want the spinner to spin. And where you will be with your camera. You can do some test shots to see what you like and if you want to change things. You will need your flashlight to shine on your subject (the person spinning) to focus your camera, it is best to shoot in Manual mode. Once you are focused the spinner can light the steel wool…and let the magic happen!
We will share with you the settings we used on our last spin. Keep in mind, that these change depending on the location, light, clouds, no clouds, full moon, and what we are wanting to create in your captures.
Here are Jeff’s photos from our last spin at Utah Lake. Jeff’s camera settings: Manual mode, ISO 400, 18mm, f/8.0, 20 sec.
Melanie’s photos from last spin at Utah Lake. Melanie’s camera settings first and second photos: Manual Mode, ISO 320, 28mm, f/10, 20 sec. Third photo: Manual Mode, ISO 320, 18mm, f/10, 20 sec.
We shot same scene with slightly different settings, our personal preferences, on what we like to create with our own images.
Remember Be a Safe Spinner.
We would love to see your captures. Please feel free to contact us at email@example.com. We always love to spotlight other photographers here.
This week we would like to showcase a special friend of ours in Florida…
Peter @abundantgratitudeguy, is one of our fellow IG photographers. He captures amazing moments of clouds, the beach, the pier and snippets of his life. He definitely shares his passion and gratitude for life through his lens. He also loves infrared photography & is learning the art of this unique craft. Follow him on Instagram to see more of his amazing talent of photography @abundantgratitudeguy. Thank you for sharing your perspective beyond the lens, Peter. Our hearts and prayers are with your family this week, as Hurricane Irma closes in on Florida…
Jeff has been working on his black and white photography with a street series, and I must say it is pretty fantastic! Here are a few of his pieces…
I think this is truly some of Jeff’s finest work. He has done amazing. There is perfect contrast in each piece.
This past week, I went to an Ultra 4 race in the middle of nowhere, Fallon, Nevada…and practiced my motion blur, for about 12 hours, 8,000+ photos…I think I might have figured it out. Here are some highlights.

Here on Two Strangers Photography, we thought it would be fun to feature a fellow photographer on our blog. This month we chose Kunal, @what.he.sees, he is a Instagram friend, who accepted the 50mm lens Challenge. He sent us 3 of his photos to share on our blog. Please enjoy… and feel free to take a look at his gallery on Instagram. He has some great photos! I love the bright blue background of with the jellyfish, it really pops! The bokeh with the dog and his tongue, is awesome work! I especially, like the way he captured the frog…it is like we are the ones in the aquarium looking at in stead of the other way around. Thanks, @what.he.sees for sharing your photos with us, and taking the 50mm lens challenge. We are excited to see what else you create.
*If you would like to be featured in our Photographer Spotlight, email us 3 of your top favorites and share a little about yourself, so that we won’t be strangers!
Coming up… Motion Blur Challenge, Sunset Bracketing, #4 Challenge of the 10 Photography Challenge & whatever else we can get ourselves mixed up in.
