from Thankful November ~ to Joyful December…

Here at Two Strangers Photography, we had a great Thanksgiving Holiday, between the two of us there is an abundance for us to be grateful for… our families, our friendships, our health, our country…

I am so thankful for the opportunity I have to share my photos with others, and so incredibly blessed to have an amazing friend & photography/blog partner, Jeff. It is so crazy to think that we didn’t even know each other a year ago. And here we are writing a blog together, coordinating photo shoots…We were even able to spend a day jeeping together with my family this past Thanksgiving. It was fun to take Jeff out in the jeep his first time rock crawling & my first time driving. Luckily, we both survived!

As we move into the new year, Two Strangers Photography would like to continue sharing our photos, we would also like to share more photos from other amazing people too. If you are interested in us sharing your photos please email us here and tag us on instagram #twostrangersphotography. We love to find beauty in all things… and are interested to see others perspectives on beauty in everything.

We also love to challenge ourselves, because we are a lot bit crazy! Jeff doesn’t know about this yet…it will be his early christmas surprise!! I think for the rest of December we should challenge each other to photograph and post things that bring us “peace or/and joy”.  The last two weeks of November we did things that we were “thankful” for. I think this one will really stretch the imagination. Please join us, #twostrangersphotography.

We will start featuring posts on our instagram page @twostrangersphotography January 1st.

*If you have an idea for a photo challenge that you would like to see us post and participate in please feel free to share it with us.

Please scroll through the photos and enjoy things that we are thankful for….

This fall here in Utah we have been blessed with an incredible show of colors. From the Skyline Drive to the Nebo Loop and all the Canyons we are surrounded by, this Autumn has been truly amazing. The above photo I took in American Fork Canyon near Silver Flat Reservoir. Melanie and myself (along with thousands of others) have had the chance to capture some beautiful pictures of this lovely area we live.

The fun part of autumn shooting can be thinking outside the box as these next two pictures show a couple of ideas just to have some more fun creating.

The top shot Melanie took a shot of only the reflections of fall showing on the surface of the water.

The bottom shot I took of some Quaking Aspen using motion. To do this I put the camera on continuous burst and moved it back and forth as I held the shutter down. You can also move it up and down for some other fun results.

Please feel free to send us some of your favorite fall shots and we will feature them next week. Until then peace my friends and keep shooting.

What a great weekend..

Last Friday night and 12+ hours on Saturday, Melanie and me had the privilege of attending a workshop hosted by @Photogadventures and @Photopills. The workshop was on using the Photopills app to plan your astrophotography outings. Photopills is amazing. We were taught how to scout out new areas using Google Earth and then with Photopills planning exactly the time and place the Milky Way will be located in relationship to your foreground subject to within a few feet. Want to know when the core will appear under Delicate Arch? Photopills can tell you the date and time that will happen. Wonder when the Golden Hour begins and ends in a month from now. Photopills has the answers. Photopills Developer Rafael Pons was our instructor. We were blown away with the details you can plan using the app. I am so excited to use it for my Yellowstone trip next month.

Saturdays session included a few more lessons from Rafael. Then we had some great classes from the @Photogadventures guys. Brendon Porter and Aaron King are so refreshing in their easygoing teaching style. Aaron’s lesson on Composition was amazing, sharing ideas I had never heard before. Check out @photogadventures on Instagram and their website. Tons of really good classes and weekly live podcasts. After class we all took a short road trip to the Wedge Overlook in Emery County. We hoped for Sunset and Milky Way shots however Mother Nature had completely another idea. Heavy clouds were greeting us and we waited a couple of hours but sadly the clouds never thinned out enough for amazing MW shots but it was so enjoyable to meet and spend time with some new photographers.

Here are a few shots Mel and I took.

Photographer in the Spotlight…

This week our featured IGer is @epaulsmith…

Paul is a wonderful photographer, whose work has been featured in @harleyandbucks restaurant located in Ogden, Utah. His photo of sunrise at Mesa Arch was chosen from thousand’s of entries and is shown on Delta Air Lines pre-flight video. We are so happy he has chosen to share his work with us and we recommend you give him a follow for some daily inspiration. We are thrilled to share a few of his pieces here on Two Strangers Photography.

All time favorite photo from Jeff…

The False Kiva

This is my most favorite photograph I’ve taken. This was a hike that was tougher than I thought it would be. (Probably shouldn’t of done it) But the reward of completing it was way more than I could imagine. To be at the Kiva was an incredible feeling. I was moved by being in a sacred place where the Indians worshiped and prayed. The more time I spent there the better the sky and lighting became. All in all, a day I don’t think I’ll ever forget. ~Jeff

All time favorite photo from Melanie…

sunrise at lp Sunrise at Lake Powell

This was taken early in the morning… I had just woken up, sitting there by myself contemplating the universe…(just kidding I was rubbing the sleep from eyes), it only last a split second, but I caught the magic! I love Lake Powell, it never disappoints. I have never witnessed another sunrise as spectacular as this one. I love photography and sharing my moments with everyone. ~Melanie @mamojeep_photography

Here at Two Strangers Photography, we thought it might be nice if we add a little learning lessons to our blog. We pick up things from here, there and everywhere. Sometimes, or more accurately we picked these up the hard the way…after the frustrating chaos…not before. We like to have hands on learning or learn by “oh snap, what just happened!”  Yep! that is how it usually works for Jeff and I. We mess up and then take the next 3 days to figure out how to un-mess it!!

Learning Lesson Tip:

*ALWAYS format your memory card in the camera when you want to empty the card. Never delete images on the card individually, or through your computer.

*The only way to improve your photography is to get out there and snap that shutter.

*Get creative & experiment, play with different f-stops and shutter speeds. See what kind of magic you can capture!

*Challenge yourself & find inspiration from others.

Thank you for stopping by…let us know what you think, we would love to hear from you!

Get out there and snap that shutter!
